Of fine style and with a delightful brown patina
Lot 4491
Crispus, Caesar, 316-326. Follis (Bronze, 19 mm, 2.92 g, 6 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Lugdunum, irregular mint, after 322. IVL CRISPVS NOB CAES Laureate and cuirassed bust of Crispus to left, seen from behind, holding spear in his right hand and shield with his left. Rev. BEATA TRN-QVILLITAS / C - R / PLG Globe set on altar inscribed VO/TIS / XX; above, three stars. Cf. RIC 162 (for prototype). An exceptionally attractive imitation, beautifully struck, of fine style, and with a delightful brown patina. Extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

At first glance, the style of this coin looks official, but some features indicate that it is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation, as the lettering is partially crude and irregular, with a spelling error on the reverse.
